From Our Director
Hello, I’m Darryl Freeman, Corporate Director of the Children and Young People Directorate. We hope you are interested in joining our team at Herefordshire Council. We’ve recently had our challenges but have ambitious plans to transform services and improve the lives of children and young people across the county.
This is an exciting time and place to take the next step in your career as part of a council committed to improvement and a focus on supporting and developing our workforce to be the best that they can be, in support of children and young people in Herefordshire.
Having taken up post as Corporate Director, Children and Young People in 2021, I am now looking for energetic and passionate people to join the team and to help support and drive our vision. We have a number of vacant roles across the service, including Social Workers, Senior Practitioners and Manager roles as well as support roles too. You’ll be joining a team of hardworking, passionate and committed people who work with families and put children at the centre of everything they do.
“Our vision is that all children and young people in Herefordshire feel safe, loved, and valued, and grow up with the confidence and skills to be the best they can be.”
Children are at the centre of everything that we do. You will be key to driving continuous improvement to provide the very best outcomes for children and young people.
Want To Make a Difference?
Herefordshire is on a journey and we would like you to be part of our next chapter. This is an exciting opportunity to have a genuine impact on the local authority and help improve and protect the children and young people within it.
In Herefordshire, we recognise that social workers undertake a very important, challenging and rewarding role alongside key stakeholders from across the county. Following the recent Ofsted inspection which judged services to be ‘inadequate’ we are fully committed to improving our Children’s Service. This is the Council’s number one priority and the transformation we need to make is not something we are shying away from.
Local children, young people and their parents/carers need and deserve good quality, high performing services – nothing less is good enough. Our current focus is to attend to the immediate priorities, address the legacy issues, invest in our workforce and start to regain trust and faith where this may have been lost.
If you want to embrace the challenge and reward of being part of Herefordshire’s improvement, this is a great time to join us and become part of our journey to good and better. We have a lot to do, and we don’t have any magic wands, but if you are looking to join a service that has corporate, partnership and political support we would love to hear from you.
We appreciate there are a number of considerations you will have when you are thinking about joining us which is why we place a premium on creating the optimum conditions within which our social workers practice. With this in mind, and alongside our package of benefits, we strive to maintain manageable caseloads so you can build meaningful relationships with children, young people and their families. We offer support from line managers who offer regular and reflective supervision and have a growing learning academy that will supports you to develop and progress your career in Herefordshire. Our senior leaders are visible and accessible… so, what’s stopping you? Come and join us and be part of the change.
