You can read about their experiences of working for Herefordshire below.

Jeanadelle – Managing Practitioner, Assessment
Jeanadelle grew up surrounded by children, her passion for making a difference in their lives became a driving force in her choice of career. She loves working with children and her passion is to make a significant impact on the lives of children and young people.
She’s committed to being a stepping stone for children, knowing that the positive influences she provides may be remembered and valued as they grow older. Jeanadelle cherishes the opportunity to support families and witness the positive changes she helps bring about.
Jeanadelle said: ‘At Herefordshire, we have a full 45 days of assessment, which means we have time to consider how to best support the family. You’re supported in the decisions you make which enhances your confidence.
“I love seeing the green fields and cows. I even found an egg lady on my way home, who I now get my eggs from! I commute to Herefordshire from Birmingham, Herefordshire has less traffic congestion, leading to shorter and less stressful commutes. You definitely don’t see fields and cows in Birmingham.
“If you’re considering joining Herefordshire, give it a try. Managers here give you time to absorb and progress. They want to grow their own and there’s always opportunities to progress and try something new.”
Kerry – Team Manager, Assessment
Kerry’s own childhood experiences in the care system led her to a career in social work. She began working as a social work assistant while pursuing her degree in Warwickshire. The role provided her with a solid foundation in social work principles and practices.
Kerry has only been with Herefordshire for a short time and is really enjoying her experience here so far. She’s quickly progressed to a management position and despite the nature of her new role, Kerry still feels deeply connected to social work and to supporting families. Additionally, her new position offers great work-life balance, which is perfect for her lifestyle.
Kerry says: “Everyone has been extremely friendly and welcoming at Herefordshire.
The opportunities here are incredible considering it is a rural location. It’s also fantastic that Herefordshire offer a relocation package. Being situated in such beautiful countryside surroundings is a huge plus.
To anyone thinking about joining Herefordshire, I’d say – absolutely go for it! The team members are incredibly supportive, and there’s a strong emphasis on safe practices and ensuring your safety as a social worker. The support system from senior management is excellent, with managers actively involved with the team. Plus, the beautiful scenery is a wonderful bonus.”

Barbara – Family Links Worker
Barbara began her journey with Herefordshire Council over 30 years ago, working in a variety of roles before taking up the position of an Assistant Family Finder in the Adoption Team. This is a role close to her heart as she was adopted by her late parents who were foster carers.
Part of her job role is to write life story books and later life letters for adopted children. These play an important part in helping adopted children to understand their personal histories, as they bridge a gap between a child’s past and their future.
Despite health challenges, including deteriorating hearing, Barbara credits the unwavering support of her team and manager for enabling her to continue in a job that she’s passionate about.
She works mostly from home, but is a valued member of her team and is always included in their regular social activities outside of work.
For Barbara, Herefordshire Council has not only been a place of work but also a place where she has experienced personal growth, support, and flexibility throughout her career.
She will shortly be allocated a hearing assistance dog, which she’s really excited about and she knows the dog will receive a warm welcome into the team from her work colleagues.
Barbara says, “I cannot express highly enough the support I continue to receive from my manager and team to enable me to remain in this role as my hearing continues to deteriorate. My current role has been adapted so I can continue to work, and I have felt fully supported during this whole process.”
Barbara continues, “Herefordshire is a beautiful county to live in and raise a family. If you’re considering working with us, give it a go. Your voice will be heard if you’re committed and passionate about making a difference for the children and young people of Herefordshire.”
Rebecca – Home Finding Officer
Rebecca started working at Herefordshire Council as a Home Finding Officer in July 2024, after previously working at a primary school and various other job roles in different sectors.
When Rebecca spotted the Home Finding Officer job advert, she was excited by the opportunity to challenge herself and explore a new and different kind of role.
Rebecca says: “The team have been incredibly supportive since I joined, always willing to offer guidance and assistance whenever needed. Their collaborative approach has made it easy to feel like a valued member of the group and the senior managers have also been very welcoming, offering both encouragement and support.”
She continues, “Working for the council is an incredibly rewarding experience. While my team don’t have direct contact with children and young people, we understand how crucial our work is in ensuring they are placed in safe, supportive homes. Knowing that we play a vital part in securing their future makes the role deeply fulfilling.
“My experience has been exceptionally positive, and I feel fortunate to have had this opportunity. The environment is incredibly welcoming, which has made my transition smooth and enjoyable. I believe that joining Herefordshire Council is a decision worth making.”

Kate – Business Support Coordinator
With a longstanding interest in children’s social care and a strength in a supportive capacity, Kate has found the Business Support role has allowed her to be part of an essential and empathetic service while utilising her academic and administrative skills. The dynamic nature of the role continues to challenge her, as well as offering new learning opportunities even after three years.
When asking Kate what she enjoys most about her job, she says: “One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is knowing that I contribute—however small—to keeping vital services operational. Beyond professional satisfaction, I have the privilege of working alongside a team of kind, dedicated, and highly skilled individuals—many of whom have become lifelong friends.”
Kate continues to explain how she finds working for the Council in Herefordshire and what she would say to anyone thinking of joining the authority: “Working for Herefordshire Council offers a unique combination of professional development and work-life balance. There is a supportive environment where professionals can grow while exercising creativity and initiative in problem-solving”. Beyond work, Kate mentions Herefordshire’s rich history, scenic landscapes, and proximity to metropolitan areas make it an ideal place to live and work.
Kate adds: “For those seeking a meaningful and diverse workplace that values both professional and personal growth, Herefordshire presents excellent opportunities”.
